Mr. Mike Bearden
Director of Bands


 

 

Mr. Mike Bearden, is in his third year as Director of Bands for “The Pride of Port St. Lucie”. Since the appointment of Mr. Bearden, the Port St. Lucie High School Band program has received straight Superior ratings at all District Marching Music Performance Assessments (MPA’s), District Concert MPA’s, and has been represented at State MPA's.

Prior to being appointed to Port St. Lucie High School, Mr. Bearden was the Director of Bands at Yearling Middle School and Assistant Director of Bands at Okeechobee High School in Okeechobee, Florida. His experience includes Marching Band, Concert Band, Jazz Band, and arranging and drill design. Mr. Bearden is a saxophonist, and has performed as a soloist throughout Georgia and Florida. Prior to relocating to Florida, Mr. Bearden taught for 8 years in Georgia at the middle school and high school levels.

Mr. Bearden is a native of Georgia, where he received his Bachelor’s of Music at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia. Mr. Bearden and his wife Robbye have two handsome sons Michael and Christian.

Mr. Bearden has served as a clinician and adjudicator throughout Georgia and Florida. He holds memberships in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Music Educators National Conference, Georgia Music Educators Association, Florida Music Educators Association, and the Florida Bandmasters Association. Mr. Bearden is the current District 13 Chairman for the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) where he oversees all FBA functions in St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin, Okeechobee, Highlands, and Glades counties.

Mr. Bearden is excited to announce that The Port St. Lucie High School Band and Band Boosters will be hosting their first annual, “The Pride of Port St. Lucie Tournament of Sound” featuring marching bands from across the entire Southeast Region. The Tournament of Sound will be a great opportunity for bands of smaller sizes to compete against themselves and receive a positive music educational experience.
